Bessie Waddill (Owner & Artistic Director), founder of Studio B, has always been enthusiastic about the performing arts. She holds a Bachelor’s degree from Vanderbilt University’s Peabody College, with majors in Child Development and Human and Organizational Development. With over 15 years of dance training and 11 years of vocal instruction, she has been recognized many times over for her talent.
She also is known for giving back to the community – most notably here in Lakewood through Woodrow Wilson’s performing arts program. She is currently the choreographer for Woodrow’s award winning show choir, The Variations.
She grew up in Lakewood and is pursuing her dream through mentoring and nurturing young students in dance and musical arts.
Fun Facts: Her favorite color is pink. Her Mom says “it’s pink with sparkles.”
Kim Bryant (Tap, Jazz & Competition Director) owned Plano Dance Expressions for 15 years, was the Company Director at Coppell Dance Centre for 7 years and has more recently worked with the competition teams at Prestige Dance and Performing Arts Center. Last year her Mini Small & Large Groups and Junior Large Group & Line placed 1st or 2nd at Showstoppers Regionals and Nationals. Notable was a 1st overall at Dance Showcase and Showbiz Nationals, 1st overall at VIP and Showstoppers and Choreography awards for Solo/Duo. Throughout her career, she has taught and trained many of the top dancers in the greater Dallas area, competing at Starpower, Showbiz, PrimeTime, VIP, Showstoppers, Move and Dance Showcase USA. We are THRILLED to have someone of her caliber so anxious to join our team.
Taylor Henscheid (Jazz, Lyrical, Contemporary and Combo Dance) has been dancing since she was 18-months-old. She is trained in ballet, lyrical/contemporary, hip-hop, jazz and tap with specialties in Jazz and Lyrical/contemporary. She has won numerous awards, scholarships and titles, including Miss Showbiz and Miss Starpower throughout her dance career. Her teaching career began at Coppell Dance Centre and continued for four years. This past year she taught at Prestige Dance and Performing Arts Center. She has won many choreography awards including two at Starpower Dance Competition and two at VIP Dance Competition this past year. All of Miss Taylor’s dances ranked in the top 10 for all of last year’s competitions. One of her teen dancers received the Art of Dance award at Starpower.
Gina Keorlet (Jazz, Tap, Ballet and Musical Theatre) grew up on the NJ shore where she was active an active member in community theater and attended a magnet High School for the Performing Arts. After graduation she moved to NYC where she obtained her BFA in Dance from Marymount Manhattan College and began her career in concert dance with performances at venues such as Alvin Ailey, Jazz at Lincoln Center, The International Dance Festival, and the LA Dance Invitational. Her love for Musical Theater took her to perform in tours and regional theater such as Crazy For You, Sweet Charity, and Hairspray. Industrial credits include Buick, The View, and Nike. Gina began to transition into teaching and competition judging around the tri-state area and is super excited to start a new chapter here at Studio B!
Tory Redington-Chauza (Company Manager & Combo Dance) holds a Master’s degree in Speech and Language Pathology and Bachelor’s degree in Language Communication Disorders and a minor in Dance. She is a Registered Speech and Language Pathologist in the State of Texas and has a pediatric private practice in Dallas. Her dance education began at Dallas Ballet Center where she studied ballet and tap for 6 years. During her middle and high school years, she trained at Cherrilane School of Dance, where she took tap, jazz, ballet and pointe. She worked as an apprentice to Cherrilane and later became a part time dance instructor. She then went on to join the ballet company at Texas Tech University. Tory and her husband live in Lakewood and have three daughters in studio B’s competition dance program. Over the past 8 years Tory has been an instrumental part of the development of studio B and is excited to come on board this year as the Company Manager and a pre-k combo dance instructor.
Emilie Skinner (Ballet) began her classical training at the age of six with Gilbert Rome and Victoria Vittum, performing with their company Houston Repertoire Ballet until graduating High School. She has studied at summer intensives including the Joffrey Ballet, Austin Ballet and Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet. In the summer of 2011, she also attended the SIBA international training program in Salzburg, Austria. While the primary focus of her training is classical ballet, she also has experience in modern, jazz and contemporary dance. In 2007, Emilie received her B.A. in French Studies with a minor in Art History from the University of North Texas, while performing with Lake Cities Ballet Theatre. After graduating, she performed with Contemporary Ballet Dallas and DGDG (Danielle Georgios Dance Group), as well as with other local ballet companies. In 2011, Emilie founded the nonprofit, professional ballet company, Dallas Neo-Classical Ballet (DNCB), and currently serves as its Founding Artistic Director. DNCB is about to begin its sixth season and has performed at institutions such as the Crow Collection of Asian Art, Dallas City Performance Hall and the Dallas Museum of Art. Born in Houston, Texas, Emilie has been teaching, choreographing and performing in the DFW area for over thirteen years and currently resides in Oak Cliff with her husband Danny and their two dogs.
Kaitlyn Van Wagoner (Ballet, Contemporary, Jazz & Lyrical) recently graduated from SMU with a degree in Dance Performance and Biomedical Anthropology. While at SMU she performed multiple times at Sharp Shows, the Brown-Bag Series, and the Fall and Spring Hope Shows.
Kaitlyn has danced since the age of three, receiving her pre-professional training at Wasatch Dance Center in Heber City, Utah. While in Utah, she was a guest performer with Odyssey Dance Theater, Radio City Christmas Spectacular, and in the Youth Cast ofThe Nutcracker with Ballet West for four years. In her pre-professional years she participated in many dance conventions and competitions across the nation: NYCDA, Adrenaline, NUVO, JUMP, Youth America Grand Prix, NYCDA Summer Intensives, and the Kirov Academy of Ballet Summer Intensive. She made her film debut as an extra in High School Musical 3 as well as a promotional video for GoBig Films titled Mountain Dance – Canon. She received many dance awards including NYCDA Regional Outstanding Dancer, Top Ten Contemporary Duo and Soloist Awards at Youth America Grand Prix, and High Point Soloist at the many competitions and conventions she participated in. Kaitlyn is happy to join the faculty at Studio B to share her talents with other aspiring dancers.
Kandyce Waddill, lovingly known as “Ms. Kandyce” is Bessie’s mom (along with her 4 other siblings). Kandyce runs the front desk and greets the students during the drop-off carpool. She is highly organized and keeps the studio running like a well-oiled machine.
Fun Facts: She makes the best guacamole in all of East Dallas. Her favorite aspect of being part of studio B is reliving old memories through daily-life at the studio.
Amy Zurlis (Tap & Jazz) has been dancing since the age of 3. After receiving her bachelor degree in Psychology from UTD with a minor in dance Amy decided that dance was her true passion and set out to become one of the top choreographers in the DFW area. She has been teaching dance in the DFW area for the past 25 years and has trained with some of the most well renowned choreographers in the country. While Amy is extensively trained in all areas of dance she specializes in tap and Jazz. Amy’s students have received both regional and national titles including Starpower national champions, Showbiz national champions and Showcase National champions. Amy has received numerous choreography awards over the years most recently being the top tap choreographer award at Dance Showcase. Amy is proud to say that Many of her students have received full dance scholarships to universities around the country. Amy teaches a fast paced technical class that can be geared toward both the beginner dancer as well as the most advanced.
